KOKBOROK: Kokborok is the language of the Indigenous people of Tripura spoken in the state of Tripura situated in the North Eastern part of India and also adjoining areas of Chittagong Hill Tract in Bangladesh. This language belongs to the Tibeto-Burman language family and shows close similarity with other North Eastern languages like Boro, Garo etc. Some historian say it has its own script called 'koloma' earlier and were being used by the royal family. But presently it has no scripts of its own and uses either the Bengali script or Roman Script for writing of which the later has greater acceptance among the educated tripuri intellectuals. Like other members of the family, Kokborok is also a tonal language. Mare usages of tone gives different meaning to the words viz. high tone and low tone, the high tone is denoted by adding extra h.
